WINTER 09 |

Pat & Petra have a long association with CBA, and both are excited about the opportunities their new show provides to talk about current and topical issues from their faith-infused perspectives.

In the very first survey after launching, ‘Sunday, Sunday with Pat & Petra’ rated number one among 17 networks with well over 60,000 listeners every week [see graph below]. The programme draws twice as many listeners as its nearest competitor. NewstalkZB’s manager Bill Francis described the show’s lead as “commanding”.

Producer Phil Guyan says, “‘Sunday, Sunday with Pat & Petra’ is not as overt as our Christmas and Easter programming. Instead, this is open line talk-back with a mainstream audience – dealing with everyday issues and current news. The difference is that Pat and Petra’s views are heavily influenced by their faith in Jesus.”

The show is a partnership, with NewstalkZB
contributing 70% of the production costs.
The first two years of CBA’s costs are covered by
a grant from the Christian World Mission based
in London, so the show is costing CBA
supporters nothing!

‘Real Life with John Cowan’ is five years old this month and has remained the most listened-to programme for its time slot throughout, having topped the nationwide survey ten times in a row. We’ve had more than 230 guests, including seven Prime Ministers (current and former). Several guests this year have spoken powerfully about their Christian faith, including Kirk Penny, Geoff Sewell, Kim Workman, Nathan King, Len Brown, Bob McCoskrie, Nikki Denholm, and many of those featured on our ‘Parachute’ special.
Visit www.reallife.net.nz for more information on Real Life, to see previous guests or to sign up for a weekly email telling you who our guest will be.
Thanks to KiwiConcern.co.nz medical alarms for their support of Real Life.

How does CBA know it’s making any difference?
Why doesn’t ‘Sunday Sunday with Pat & Petra’ talk more about God?

These are the kind of young people
I hope my kids grow up to be!”
That’s what one of our selection team said after reading the CBA Broadcasting Scholarship applications. Head students, senior school prefects, A+ students and even an international debating champion were among the 20 applicants. We’re encouraged by the quality, commitment, faith, vision and obvious competence of these young Christians who we believe will make a significant and positive impact through New Zealand’s mass media in years to come. More in the next issue of the CBA NEWS.

We work hard to make the most of each donation we receive. For every dollar you give, 1500 people hear one of CBA’s ‘Scrubcutter’ programmes. Our ‘special day’ spots are distributed to 220 programme directors and announcers throughout NZ and are heard by hundreds of thousands of listeners. We keep our overheads to a minimum, but our financial needs are ongoing. Here are some items you may like to help pay for:

As always, we’re very grateful for your support. Thank you! To donate online, please use our account number 12 3110 0014706 00 and include your donor number '33257' in the reference details.

A response to our Easter programming: “As someone who has traditionally sat on the fence, I have really enjoyed listening to you. You have swung me over the fence now!”
